Inside September 30th
Alright I am not coming @ you by video because I am having problems with learning the new I-Movie 08. What’s really frustrating is I just got the old program down and they go and change it on me and it doesn’t even look the same. You’re just going to have to read this one.
- College football started tonight. I don’t care about the shut out that LSU is handing Mississippi State but I have it on anyway because it has been 9 months since I have watched a college game.
- Speaking of football, this Sunday we start a new series called “Season Tickets” where I’m talking about the privilege and responsibility of being involved in the local church. In today’s commitment-phobic, entertainment-driven culture, church attendance can be treated as just one more stop in the weekend tour of duty: get the house clean, race to the soccer game, stop at the superstore, and then go to church — if there’s time. But our job as church leaders is to shift this perspective from consumerism to participation, from watching a performance to worshipping a living God.
- I’ll be discussing what it means to be a part of Shoreline Church; Why we do the things that we do at Shoreline and how Shoreline can help them in their spiritual game; how Life Groups play a part of that; and how to get out of the stands and into the game.
- As we re-ignite our passion for the vision of Shoreline church, we’ll be encouraging our people to reach out and invite individuals to our next series, starting on the 23rd called “Dangerous Church”.
- We’re timing both of these series’ strategically for back-to-school, when families are returning to regular schedules and ramping up responsibility.

- Sept. 2nd – Season Tickets: Any Given Sunday – Why we do what we do on Sunday morning. Similar to The Ladder or the Table messages. Good service to invite someone who you would like to get an understanding of church.
- Sept. 9th – Season Tickets: Get Life Day – If you are a Life Group Leader, don’t forget to wear your football jersey that day.
- Sept. 16th – Season Tickets: Get in the Game – This will be a Volunteer recruiting message.
- As you can see, this series follows our process for connecting with Shoreline – Worship Services – Life Groups – Volunteering
- If you have any football garb, by all mean, wear it during this series. Especially those who greet or in hospitality.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. We want to do a tail gate party after the 2nd service in the 16th. I would like to do hot dogs and soda. It would have to be cooked and stuff during the 2nd service, so if you know anyone who would like to serve and the project manager and run that, let the office know.
We will see you Sunday and don’t forget that God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.

PS – I know economically, things are tough right now. I know this because things are tough in the church budget right now. But let me encourage you to not stop tithing and giving. We have a saying in the office about “giving our way out.” I know sometimes when things get tight, we look at our finances and say, “Well, there is not enough left over to give.” The way Darlene and I get around that is we pay our tithe first. Your tithe and your giving is your seed for future blessings. But if you don’t plant it, you will never receive it back. I am saying this for you, to see you come through this tough time with the blessings of God overtaking you.
About the 16th BBQ…do we know where it is going to be held yet? Are we going to invite the whole church or volunteers and people interested in volunteering? This is of great interest to me as I really need more greeting volunteers. I wouldn’t mind taking on some responsibilities for the BBQ, especially if it would mean that I can gain some more volunteers.
